Investing In Dealership Staff Education Is Just Plain Stupid!
How many dealerships do you know where only one person is budgeted to attend educational conferences/workshops designed for digital marketing, social media, or BDC operations. How many people from your dealership attended NADA this year?
Have you known a dealership that relied heavily on one person to lead their online strategy only to see the new "hot" dealership down the road lure them away? In most cases, the dealership is left hanging…

Mobile Paid-Search Clicks Continue to Increase
A recent study by Marin, "State of Mobile Search Advertising in the US", shows that the percent of paid-search clicks from mobile devices is growing faster than expected, and if the trend continues, is expected to account for 25% of all paid-search clicks by Google by the end of the year. This includes not only mobile phones but also tablet computers.

The Worst Wheel
When my youngest was 7 she said, “I can’t remember – is it the boy or the girl peacocks that have the bright feathers.”
“It’s the boys. In the bird world, the boys have the fancy feathers to get the attention of the girls. With people, girls are the ones that dress all fancy to get the boys’ attention. Boys just need a cool car.”
“Dad, you don’t have a cool car.”
“Well, I’m not trying to get girls’ attention.”
“It’s a good thing. You’d need a convertible,…

Are cars the next big social media hot spot? And is that safe?
Interesting article from autonews.com this week: a(nother) new piece of technology has just been introduced by TRW Automotive Holdings Corp.: an in-vehicle touch-pad sensor that can read letters and numbers drawn with a finger. The premise here is to allow drivers to do more with less distraction.
Most of us spend a large amount of time in our cars during the week, and we all want to multitask while we're in them. Emails, phone calls, and notes don't stop just because we're behind the…

Since the release of the popular film “The Fast and the Furious”, car accessorizing has shifted from being a secret of car gear enthusiast to a main stream phenomenon. Two sequels later and the aftermarket accessory market continues to average 8% growth annually. Car dealerships…

Why there Needs to be MORE Conferences

I was having a discussion with a dealer over a nice vodka tonic and a nice cigar when the discussion turned to conferences. "There are just too many that it's hard to know which ones to go to and which ones to skip," he said.
This concerned me a bit. I've been on that side of the debate before but with the help of friends like Jared Hamilton, Brian Pasch, and Ralph Paglia I have come to the conclusion that the industry doesn't have enough conferenes. Before…

A dog and a cat were recently having a conversation about how each other looks at the world.
They had been friends a long time and the dog had recently been promoted to the title of Service Manager of his Dealership. The cat had stopped by for a visit and to congratulate her friend on his recent promotion. And, as Managers are prone to do, they began to discuss how each run…

AutoNation & Ebay resurrect the good old Slasher Sale...ONLINE
BY KYLIE BANKS
KBANKS@MIAMIHERALD.COM
Jared Schaffer’s time surfing the web paid off in a big way last weekend. By clicking on a link for a 2012 Ford F-150, he was able to save more than $18,000 on a new car.
By the end of Friday, 32 new cars will have been sold at 50 percent off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, courtesy of a promotion by AutoNation Direct and eBay Motors that began March 23. Several more are slated to go on sale Friday, including a…

It seems hard to fathom that a person can drown in just over an inch of water. Once the lungs are blocked and the brain is starved of oxygen, cerebral hypoxia kicks in making a person delirious eventually succumbing to death-a great tragedy can occur from something as small as the length of your fingernail. Similarly, salespeople are drowning in a puddle of…

Todays Turbo Charged Dealer World Blog is a core training element that should be visited over and over again. Probably something we all know, but just great to keep in the "top of mind" awareness section of the brain.

The “Holy Grail” of automotive retail should be to grow beyond the “Internet Department” or “BDC” and become what we’ll call here a “Digital Dealership”. Our industry has been implementing these departments since the late nineties and still is up to now. These departments evolved out of necessity to capture a consumers interests via the internet in a more…

Over the weekend, I was sifting through boxes and boxes of dealership "stuff" in preparation for my presentation at the Automotive Super Conference in June. I came across notes from a "Kick-off" Department Head Meeting I conducted in 1997, in the spirit of Jack Dawson's famous speech in the movie Titanic. I thought this was pretty remarkable as the remake is soon to be released in 3-D. I scanned over my notes and chuckled..."Some things are still so relevant…

SEO Ranking Factors: The Periodic Table
It's not necessary for most dealers to have a complete understanding of the art and science surrounding automotive SEO. What is important is realizing that whether you're doing it yourself, working together with a partner vendor, or having the vendor do all the work, your overall search (and social) strategy should be intimately tied in together to make sure you're getting the most out of…
