The Importance of Prospecting.

It is my belief that the single thing that seperates the Sales Professional from the Ameture. In order to achieve true success in sales of any form, most especially the automotive industry, waiting around for someone to pull up will not prove to be anything other than mentally draining and stressful. The truth is that people are still buying and trading cars. Not everyone is out of work, and not everyone is broke.

People complain about competition, but arent…

Holidays are a time for giving!!!

The holiday season is a great time to combine “giving” and your dealerships social media presence!

While I am sure you and your dealership have your own charities that you give to during the holidays, a sure fire way to expand your social media footprint is to contribute to the charities of your customers!

A great way…

How prevalent are drug in the auto business and what are you doing about it?

We have had our share of drug addicted employees over the last year. Many were productive salespeople and kept their problems from being our problems, except when they didn’t. That is when we reviewed our policy, fine tuned it and began testing all new hires, anyone suspected of drug use and anyone involved in any kind of accident or mishap.

It is my observation that our industry either attracts people with addictive personalities or drives more people to use illicit drugs. Might it…

Yeah, What Richard Branson Says: Screw Business As Usual!

I'm tired of hearing it. As you all know I'm a social media guy, different than the rest. I believe that in order to truly harness the business changing aspects of social media that you must first create a social change, not only in your own dealership but within the entire industry as a whole. I'm tired of hearing, "That's not the way we do…

TrueCar Thoughts from Elise Kephart

Another night of being up late...thinking about work, personal life, work...and of course this whole TrueCar debate.  I'm not sure if this it's a good or bad thing that for the past two hours I have been catching up on all of the blogs, videos, phone conversations recorded etc.

Now, before I state my thoughts on this.  I realize that there are a few close friends and mentors in the automotive online network here that may have a different opinion.  I am the type of person however,…

ADDED THE CALL: Mr. Painter, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!

I was challenged by Grant Cardone via Facebook about a few things to do with my stance on TrueCar, one of the challenges being whether I had reached out  to TrueCar about my concerns. I had not—but I thought about it, and so I did!  I emailed TrueCar's CEO Scott Painter via LinkedIn…

Any Questions?

Time to move on and do something about it.

This True car deal is no different than the guy down the street advertising at cost or below. It's no different than when the internet came out and people were worried everyone will come in with the cost of a car. This simply is not the case. One thing will remain the same. The best trained sales force can overcome anything. What's your thoughts?

Scott Painter (CEO of TrueCar) speaks to Stan Sher (President of Dealer eTraining)

It was Monday December 12, 2011 and I had decided to take a nap at 4:00 PM as I had just spent an average of 14 hours per day working from my home office.  I actually spent all weekend working on projects and creating more curriculums.

My nap was rather long and I slept until 8:00 PM.  I woke up and looked at my cell phone only to find a voice message from a random phone number in California.  I listened to the message and saw that it was one of Scott Painter's people…

TrueCar and now... CarWoo?

Just saw this article on TechCrunch about CarWoo. One of the main things in this whole TrueCar scenario (other than data) was TrueCar's goal of removing salespeople from the process.

I thought this part of the article was interesting.

"That’s the promise of CarWoo, a startup that looks to take the stressful negotiation tactics and pushy salespeople out of the equation, allowing consumers to buy their car online with a relatively small amount…

What can’t be undone and the power of T.W.O.

Scrambled eggs can’t be undone. Neither can your past. The only guarantee in your life is the present. Often we focus on the tiny rearview mirror affectionately known as our past, instead of being fixated on the large windshield of our future. You can’t be bitter and sweet, you can’t be hot and cold, neither can you move backward and expect to advance forward in your life. Sometimes we become stuck because we like it. Not because it is enjoyable, but because it is…
