It's a question that is raised from time to time, particularly by sales managers and internet managers. Should employees, in particular the sales team, be allowed to connect with their customers through Facebook and other social media sites? It's not a question of whether or not they should encourage their customers to like the…

We all have giants or obstacles that try to keep us from succeeding in our profession every given day. Obstacles seem to try to always get in the way of our dreams and aspirations. In life we all have two choices; we can quit and live in mediocrity and deal with that, or we can rise up and claim the victory that we deserve because we choose to take action.
So…

What happened to actually EARNING a great review. I got an email from a company today that offers their reputation management company that will post reviews, to my clients, that I FABRICATE for just $97/mo. WOW! How terrible is that?!? If you treat a customer well, you earn the right to ask them for their business. Reviews should be earned by providing good service to a client. Not just because it's BS to future customers though; bogus reviews prevent you from making ourselves look in…

I vividly remember a conversation I had with Wikimotive's Tim Martell back in 2008. Even four and a half years later, the conversation has remained in my mind. We were discussing the rise of social media. We both agreed that Facebook would be the big thing, but…

So I am working on various digital marketing efforts for this dealership and I decided to do some research to see what photo sharing sites have the best benefits. I mean I know Flickr to be the best but it has been a while since I last researched. I figured photobucket , shutterfly, and others would have similar results. Well I came up with a nice comparison that shows Flickr to be the ultimate site hands down.
Here is the link to check it out:…

When I heard ActivEngage CEO Todd Smith jokingly call David Kain “the Silver Fox,” I thought the nickname was merely an offhand reference to his shock of alabaster hair. But the more I watched and spoke to David, the more I realized that his silvery mane disguised a man with a clever mind…

We all want to manage our online presence, especially when it comes to search engine optimization. Unfortunately, due to the very nature of backlinks, it’s often out of our control. Until now, there hasn’t been an official solution for when you’re bombarded by poor…

The days of limited engagement with your customers are over. According to Facebook, there are 3.2 billion likes and comments a day on their Website. How, as dealerships, do you manage social media? Do you update your blog once a month or do you post on Facebook once a day? There is no golden rule, but there are easy guidelines to follow.
ActivEngage knows that social media is an ever changing medium to communicate with your dealership’s customers and we know that it can be a pretty…

Social media is about conversations. It's not a broadcasting platform like traditional advertising, search marketing, or other forms of internet marketing. Conversations on social media happen all over the place and are pertinent to your dealership's local area. YOU should be involved in as many of these…

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" Wayne Gretzky
For some reason, I'm on a Wayne Gretzky Quote kick this week. At first this seemed weird to me since I'm not a hockey fan, but then I realized why I love Wayne's quotes:
1. He is a champion, and will be remembered as one for the rest of his life.
2. His quotes transcend hockey and are really relevant in sales.
3. My middle name is Wayne and this obviously means we have some sort connection. (this one may be…

All car batteries contain sulfuric acid and produce hydrogen and oxygen gases. If the hydrogen gas comes into contact with an ignition source, the battery can explode, sending pieces of the battery and acid flying. There are several safety precautions technicians should routinely follow when handling car batteries. This three minute…

We've all seen the slogan: "safety is everybody's business." No argument there. A positive safety culture requires teamwork. But there's a funny thing about teams: if no one's in charge of the action items, everyone assumes that it's "someone else's business" to take care of them. And nothing actually gets done.
Every effective safety program has a safety coordinator. In some cases, the coordinator is a GM or high-level executive. If that approach works for your dealership, stick to…
