How long do you keep a new employee before letting him go ?

I had a manager say to me sales people should be able to sell cars in a week or ten days,  A lot of dealerships don't give the new sales rep time to learn. If a sales rep sells 8 to 10 or more a month , that is ok to start. So how much time do you give them to learn?  My answer is 20 months. You hardly get repeats in the first year and can get some referrals if you follow up and keep prospecting.                                                                                                    … Continue

BRANDED-A Study of Revelations for the Automotive Sales Professional

I had completed all of my interviews.  I had taken my Predictive Index and my Wunderlick Quiz, I had answered all the questions about why I wanted to be a car sales person, I had pitched the sales manager's pen to him, successfully selling him a 2-year old Mont Blanc that already belonged to him.  I had seen the pay plan and accepted the terms, shaken my sales managers hand and agreed to start on Friday, 2 days away.

From the sales managers office, I called my mom and told her, "I am…

Warranty Administration Procedures

I have worked in most positions in a dealership.  In each department, there are established procedures that are used to complete tasks to meet forcasted goals.  Sales use stringent procedures to ensure that cars are pushed across the curb.  Service departments use multiple procedures to generate upsales and high customer satisfaction indexes.  General office departments use precise procedures to keep all of the legal and accounting aspects of the dealership in order.

What about your…

The Day the Internet Stood Still
